YISD Child Nutrition Services surprised the Ysleta High School cafeteria staff last week with the news that they had been named the “YISD Cafeteria of the Year.” 25 campuses entered the contest which included an essay and principal survey. To participate, each cafeteria submitted an essay entitled "Why We Should Be Cafeteria of the Year." In addition, principals were surveyed about their cafeteria.
According to their essay, they are the only cafeteria in the district involved in a recycling program that has composted over 3 tons of organic waste within the span of two years. The compost is used by the Ysleta HS Environmental Science and Engineering class. This year, they have provided 200 empty cans for the Advanced Plants and Soil class.
“Our pride as employees of Ysleta High School shines more each day. The quality of service that we give is outstanding and the food we serve is nutritious, balance and appetizing, making our cafeteria a place with the kids like to be.”
The cafeteria is managed by Julie Anaya. Other employees are: assistant manager Christina Aguirre, major cook Patricia Ochoa, cashier/helper Julieta Alvidrez, and cafeteria helpers Gabriela Ascencio, Blanca Cano, Olga Carreon, Maria D. Hernandez, Olivia Peralta, Miguel Rico, Soledad Seanez, Sara Singh, and Rosa Tinajero.
